After the success of the charity raffle held by the Sydney True Blues for a limited edition poppy signed home shirt in the Aurora Hotel towards the end of the season, the club were invited recently to ANZAC House in Sydney CBD to present a cheque of $1000 for 50% of the total raised to the ANZAC Appeal. True Blues members Graeme Collins, Derek Kerr & Christopher John McClymont met with Chris Perrin & Mark Lee of ANZAC and were given a tour of the building and a history into the background of the ANZAC Appeal and where the money goes.
Shortly after the visit we received an email from the ANZAC Appeal which demonstrates just how much the donation was appreciated. A bond has now been formed as the club received a special invitation to return at events planned in the future and we will be honoured to attend. As a club we also indicated our intention to make further donations as and when we can to a very worthwhile cause. The reason many of us are able to reside here in Australia today is thanks to those who gave their freedom to secure ours which is why we have donated 50% of the raffle proceeds to ANZAC. The other 50% will be presented by cheque to Poppy Scotland in the near future when some members return home to Scotland.
“Dear Chris,
It is our responsibility to thank you for your most generous donation of $1000. We are honoured that your small yet determined club of Scottish ex-pats saw fit to donate 50% of the proceeds of your raffle to DefenceCare (RSL WBI).
On behalf of the State President, Mr Rowe, please pass on the gratitude of The Returned and Services League of Australia (New South Wales Branch) and DefenceCare to the members, friends and family of Glasgow Rangers Supporters Club – The Sydney True Blues Rangers.
I note from the link that you sent us that the Rangers FC are quite a patriotic club and we commend them for their kind consideration of those who have fought and died for Queen and country. We commend you for your thoughts and guarantee that we will faithfully put the funds that you raised to good use helping our serving ex-serving men & women & their families.
I can say without reservation that we wish there were more organisations within our family that saw fit to donate to such a worthy cause.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely
Chris

Finally a special mention must go to Christopher John McClymont who won the signed shirt in the raffle. Within moments of his winning ticket being drawn Chris very generously presented the shirt to Jim who was in town to watch the game whilst on holiday visiting his daughter. Congratulations to him and to all who contributed – we can all be very proud of this success.
